Visiting & Lodging

The preserve is not open for all-day drop-in visitation. Current visitor information requires reservations for weekday and weekend guided tours.

Visitors either take a roughly half-mile nature walk or ride a shuttle to the preserve, then observe four wolf packs from a central viewing area before continuing to fox, bobcat and lynx presentations.

The experience is outdoors on uneven terrain. Dress for weather and wear appropriate closed-toe footwear. Accessibility accommodations should be discussed with the preserve in advance.

Pets are not permitted on preserve property or left in vehicles. Visitors with service animals should contact the preserve ahead of time for current guidance.

The surviving tavern, barn, cottage, smokehouse and shed date from roughly 1800 to 1870 and represent the former river hamlet's commercial and residential history.

The public may fish here or launch small non-motorized watercraft such as canoes and kayaks. Always assess current river conditions and use appropriate safety equipment.

The Riverside Amphitheater between the historic barn and Delaware River hosts an annual outdoor concert series and other seasonal community events.

Event parking is limited. For concerts and major programs, arrive early and follow current event instructions.

Knowlton provides multiple ways to enjoy the river, including public access at Ramsaysburg and campground-based riverfront recreation.

Ramsaysburg permits launching of small watercraft, while local campgrounds also support river recreation. Know your route, take-out point and river conditions before launching.

The greater Water Gap corridor supports rafting and tubing trips, making Knowlton a convenient base for river-oriented weekends.

Currents, water temperature, high water, low water and weather can change conditions quickly. Use an appropriate personal flotation device and follow current state and National Park Service guidance.

The state forest offers 22 miles of trails, Delaware River frontage, Mount Tammany access, Sunfish Pond, paddling, fishing and camping.

The Appalachian Trail passes through the Water Gap landscape and connects with Worthington and Sunfish Pond hiking.

Camp Taylor advertises direct hiking access from the campground into Worthington State Forest and Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area, reducing the need to drive to busy trailhead parking.

Arrive early enough to park, register and reach the guided tour on time. The preserve operates on scheduled tours rather than open-ended arrival.

On-site parking can be limited during concerts and major events. Follow event-specific parking directions and avoid blocking Route 46 access.

Use designated parking only and follow current park rules. Popular Water Gap trailheads can be busy during good-weather weekends.

Check vehicle-length, trailer and arrival policies before travel. Rural GPS routing can select roads that are unsuitable for large RVs.
